Getting Hits from Link Lists

Link lists are a great source for traffic, but what's the best way to go about getting listed? First of all you don't want to clutter your site with tons of reciprocal links, and secondly, they all have different rules; if you follow some, you'll violate others. The answer is to create feeder sites.
Step One: Choose Your Lists
Your first step will be to choose your links. You will of course want to hit all the big ones - Tommy's Bookmarks, Green Guy - but you will also want to choose some smaller niche-specific lists. If you have a lot of pantyhose content, find a list that specializes in those types of sites… this traffic can be the most valuable. Most of the Webmaster resources have a list of link links, so it won't be hard for you to find them. I even found a link list for link lists, but I think that's getting a little carried away. Step Two: Read the rules
Make sure you read the rules of each link list, they are not all the same. If you don't read and follow the rules, you won't get listed, it's as simple as that. You don't want to waste your or anyone else's time. As you are reading the rules, group the lists according to similar rules, such as those that allow exit consoles and those that don't. Most link lists will want their link placed on pages with other links - this keeps fresh traffic moving to everyone. You'll need to know who has similar rules so you can place those links on the same pages.
Step Three: Build the site
Your feeder site will have a warning page, just like your main site. Copy it and save it by another name. This is the page you will submit to the link list. An example of one of mine:

Then build a gallery page and link to it from your warning page. If the link list's rule specify how many pictures you can use, follow them. I wouldn't use more than twenty. And most importantly, don't give it all away for free. You're looking to tease the surfer and get him hard, but don't get him off. From this gallery, add links to your main page and/or tour. You can use both text links and banners.
Step Four: Place the Recips
Now that you have the pages built, add the links to the link lists you plan to target with this feeder site. You can place as many as you'd like and add more as you find more lists. I wouldn't go too crazy… at the most, six links. Of course don't use six huge banners. Depending on the amount of traffic you expect from a list, give a comparable type of link, from a button to a text link, depending on their rules.
Ok, that's it. Now just submit your feeder site to the appropriate link sites. These are very easy to build, and you can use your gallery over and over again on different link lists. But if you are submitting to a niche list, like pantyhose, be sure to use pantyhose pictures. You can build a few of these each week and your traffic will build over time.
